WASHINGTON – A D.C. police officer suffered a laceration to the pinnacle whereas making an attempt to arrest a theft suspect on Tuesday.
What we all know:
Police responded to the 2000 block of eighth Avenue, Northwest, round 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday for a report of theft in progress.
In response to MPD, officers approached the suspect who was reportedly leaving the shop with stolen merchandise.
They tried to cease the suspect within the 600 block of Florida Avenue, Northwest, after they say he grew to become combative and assaulted an officer. A further officer then used pepper spray to attempt to subdue the suspect.
The suspect then pulled a knife and slashed on the officer he had beforehand assaulted, inflicting a laceration to the officer’s brow. Further officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife, and the suspect complied and was taken into custody.
The injured officer was taken to a neighborhood hospital for remedy of non-life-threatening accidents.

The suspect has been recognized as 45-year-old Ian Andre Zephryin. He was charged with assault with intent to kill, felony assault on a police officer, second-degree theft, and resisting arrest.
